seasonal spotlight: peaches are ripe and ready ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ

Welcome to a new series where each month I'll send you one email featuring what's seasonal and fresh! I'm in Georgia, so my seasonal produce will be a little different than yours unless you're in Georgia too.

This is absolutely my favorite time of year! Peaches are plump, ripening on the trees, and starting to show up at the farmer's market. Blueberries and melons are almost perfect, and strawberries are sweet and juicy. And corn! I love sweet summer corn.

I hope y'all have access to fresh, local produce. It's worth a drive to get it straight from the farm, and there are so many local farmers' markets around that you should be able to find one nearby. You'll see a noticeable difference in produce that came from a farm in the next county over, as opposed to produce that was picked green and spent days (weeks?) on a truck across the country to make it to your big box grocery store.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to use what's ready here in Georgia. Let me know what you're cooking this month!

Seasonal Spotlight

Peaches

I drive by several peach orchards on the way to my Mama's house from Augusta, and it makes me so happy when I start seeing those sweet peaches ripening and hanging from the trees. As soon as I can grab some, I like to make the first cobbler of the season.

Tomatoes

The best tomatoes won't be ready for a few weeks, but you can find some good ones here and there, especially from Florida. Cherry tomatoes are good now, and it's the perfect time for making fried green tomatoes.

Squash and Corn

There's a corn market near our family land in Middle Georgia, and I always make it a point to visit when the corn comes in. The market just opened up last week, so by the time I get there in a couple of weeks, the corn will be so delicious.

They sell a corn salsa that my family inhales too! And of course, squash is everywhere you turn. We love summer squash in a casserole or sauteed with some Vidalia onion in a skillet.
